The Music Program
adheres to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for music as well as cross curriculum standards for all content areas.
The music program varies instruction and activities to accommodate five levels of training to make every effort to meet the needs of our diverse students population.
The beginning tier levels present to students therapeutic activities containing all of the music curriculum areas. These activities develop fine and gross motor skills while incorporating speech, physical therapy and occupational therapy into music lessons. Students involved in these tier levels experiment with music through the use of instruments, puppets, flags, props, etc. as they pertain to the lesson at hand.
The advanced tier levels of training focus on music performance and instruction,
theory, origin and other historical and
non-historical elements.

Teaching Tolerance through the Arts has been an innovative & very successful program used to teach the students of Cape May County Special Services about other cultures, nationalities, races, religions & countries through music & the arts.
This program has also been a great tool to teach the student of CMCSSSD about their surrounding community about each other and about how disabilities impact their lives, as well as out the many facets of our the district.
Through the use of grants funds that are provided by the CMCSSSD's Education Foundation, we are able to bring professional performances of various cultures on-site several times each year and to take our students out into the community to experience professional performances at various venues.
