The Swim program provides physical fitness and motor skills development within a Physical Education program for children with disabilities.
When students learn and gain basic readiness skills, the program instruction then models the Red Cross'
Learn to Swim program. |

The program begins during Pre-School at age 3.
Each child is unique and individualization is the key to safe, effective and relevant programming.
|

One of the primary means by which children learn is through play. We use the play process as part of the teaching process.
Their active involvement during play enables them to try new things and become more confident and consistent at the things they already do.
|
Goals of the Swim program include: Developing water safety skills, improve swimming skills,
improve student’s physical fitness, and the
development of an appreciation of swimming as a recreational activity.
Aquatic activities are a fun and enjoyable experience that have many physical, psychosocial, cognitive and recreational benefits. |
Water facilitates muscle relaxation, joint range of motion and improved
muscle strength and endurance. Swimming strengthens muscles that enhance postural stability necessary for locomotion and object control skills. |
The Swim program focuses on play-based functional movement- improving range of motion, helping to facilitate neurodevelopment growth, improved body awareness, increased balance, sensory integration, mobility skills and most importantly- having fun! |
