As the new Assistant Superintendent at Cape May County Special Services School District (CMCSSSD), I welcome you to the start of the 2018-2019 school year! It is truly an honor to be here and I look forward to working with our families and school community as we build new programs and continue to provide a safe and nurturing school environment for our children. We are all very excited to embark on another school year where we get to follow our mission of providing effective educational programs that meet the unique social, emotional, physical, intellectual and career needs of our very special student population.

Cape May County Special Services School District (CMCSSSD) has been serving families in Cape May County for over 40 years. We pride ourselves in preparing our students to reach their highest potential through specialized programs, innovative curriculum, as well as implementing Individualized Education Plans with targeted school and community based supports. The district is comprised of two schools, Cape May County High School and Ocean Academy which serve students from over 16 municipalities, 24 sending districts, in a county that covers over 620 square miles.   Since 1974, our schools have provided programs offering high quality services based on research-based, best practice approaches, to children whose special educational needs stem from a variety of disabilities. Ocean Academy serves students from ages 3-14 and Cape May County High School serves our high school youth. Unlike many special needs students who attend regular education schools, our students learn in an enriching social atmosphere. They are not on the periphery of social events, they are the stars!  Our schools have the added advantage of very unique and specialized programs that include the following:

  • Autism
  • Emotional Disabilities
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Vocational and Prevocational
  • Life Skills
  • Job Coaching
  • Outdoor Experiential Education (OXE)
  • Service Learning through Cape Kids Care
  • Preschool for Students with Disabilities
  • Alternative High School
  • Community Based Instruction

CMCSSSD continues to develop new programs and supports and has recently added the services of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT’s) as well as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) that support student behavior management as well as work with our Case Managers and Licensed Clinical Social Workers to create, individualize, maintain, and evaluate our students' educational programs.

The district also offers the following Shared Services to our 24 sending districts through our Itinerant and Related Services Departments:

  • Child Study Team Services
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Speech/Language Therapy
  • Assistive Technology
  • Autism Consultation
  • Transportation – non-public and special education
  • Home Instruction

CMCSSSD is looking forward to continuing to provide innovative and individualized programming to meet the needs of our special populations. I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions about our schools and can be reached directly at 609-465-2720 ext. 2200.

Best wishes for a wonderful school year!

Ms. Jamie P. Moscony
